I was taken aback when I received replacements for my Philips Sonic toothbrush. Instead of the usual plastic box containing the three toothbrush heads, there were three small, unmarked plastic bags. Initially puzzled, I soon realized and appreciated Philips’ conservation efforts. It likely saved them on postage and packaging costs, showing that conservation aligns with good business sense.
This year’s Earth Day theme: “Planet vs Plastic” calls for action, urging us to take responsibility for our impact by reducing plastic consumption. I must put my money where my mouth is!
Archaeologists often delve into a culture’s trash to discern its values. The Jupiter Lighthouse in Florida opened in 1860 and stands on a shell mound created by Native Americans. Archeologists studying the Jupiter inlet area have found tools, pottery, shell and bone tools and adornment. The mounds record the evidence of their lives and diets.
I’m curious about what the conclusions future Archaeologists will draw about our society.
